About the Event
FtO Okinawa 2019 was the very first Facing the Ocean event — held on the island of Okinawa, Japan. Geographically and symbolically, Okinawa sits at the meeting point of Japan, Taiwan, and Korea, making it the perfect birthplace for a community built around shared oceans.
The event featured a Welcome Party at Startup Lagoon, followed by two days of collaborative hacking and an after party in Naha. Alongside FtO Tainan 2019, this event launched what would become an annual series bringing together civic tech communities across East Asia.
